Port Adelaide have confirmed their interest in luring wantaway Swan Jordan Dawson to Alberton.

Dawson, 24, requested a trade home to South Australia last week as the Swans and midfielder couldn't see eye-to-eye on a new deal amid the club's strained financial flexibility.

The request has since placed both the Crows and Power as leaders to land Dawson's services after reported interest from Victorian clubs.

Adelaide and Port Adelaide are tipped to begin negotiations with the Swans on possible trade packages that would satisfy Sydney, who will likely be looking to bolster their draft stocks.

Both clubs have suitable selections for this year's draft they could place on the table, with Dawson's value likely to warrant at least a second-round selection in return.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Port Adelaide football boss Chris Davies revealed that while discussions were yet to get underway, the Power have an "extreme interest" in Dawson.

“Any South Australian player wanting to come home is someone we need to do our due diligence on," Davies said.

“He’s had a great year and if he wants to come to our club that would be fantastic.

"He's certainly a player that we have got extreme interest in ... (but) we haven't entered into any sort of meaningful discussions."

Dawson has played 64 games for the Swans since making his debut in 2017, emerging as a versatile asset for coach John Longmire.

Finishing third in Sydney's best and fairest this year, the Sturt product would be seen as a key element in the Power looking to contend for the premiership in 2022.

Port are understood to have some wiggle room this off-season, which has been lifted by the departures of Tom Rockliff, Hamish Hartlett, Joel Garner and Tyson Goldsack.

The Power have reportedly held a medical for Giants forward Jeremy Finlayson, who could be another name to swap New South Wales for South Australia.

However, Davies stated that talks with the Greater Western Sydney spearhead were yet to transpire.

The Port football manager also revealed that out-of-favour defender Tom Clurey is set to remain at the club next season despite facing a tough battle to retain his place in Ken Hinkley's defence.

Davies did reveal that a number of fringe players could look to assess their options away from Alberton Oval this off-season however.

"There's some guys who clearly might want to look at what their alternatives are in terms of more games potentially at other clubs," he added.

Riley Bonner, Robbie Gray, Jarrod Lienert and Steven Motlop are among Port Adelaide players yet to recommit to the club past this season.
