Star North Melbourne defender Robbie Tarrant is weighing up his future, according to AFL Media's Damian Barrett.

One of the Kangaroos' most reliable statesman, the 31-year old is contracted until the end of next season.

However, North are set to overhaul the club from top to bottom this off-season, already announcing 11 player delistings last month and several coaching changes.

Ben Brown and Shaun Higgins are two of the most notable players on the move as the club heads in a different direction and rebuilds.

Speaking on AFL Media's Footy FeedBarrett revealed that Tarrant could seek a trade in the upcoming November window.

"Robbie Tarrant, while contracted for 2021, is another North player considering a future that may not involve North Melbourne," Barrett said.

"The default position is the contract for 2021, that is going to be something the club can hold him to. And deep down I think that is how it plays out, that he does stay a Roo.

"But I can tell you as fact that he is considering the bigger picture with his footy right now."

AFL journalist Cal Twomey believes Tarrant should either command a contract extension or a trade from the Kangaroos.

"If I'm Robbie Tarrant, I'm 31, I'm saying to North Melbourne either you extend my contract out beyond next year and give me an extra couple of years and see me out a Roo, or you trade me now," Twomey said.

"My best value is right now for you as a club, get the most out of me now, or you extend me."

Tarrant averaged 15.6 disposals, 4.2 marks and 5.7 rebound 50s from 16 games in 2020.
