Mabior Chol could be set for a move up North to the Gold Coast with his time at Richmond seemingly coming to an end.

Chol is out of contract at the end of the season and is keen to play senior football now. With Richmond having re-signed Jack Riewoldt for another year and Ivan Soldo set to return from a knee injury, those opportunities may not come at Richmond.

SEN's Sam Edmund reported early on Tuesday morning that Chol would "walk" to Essendon, but those reports have been rebutted by the Herald Sun.

The Herald Sun report is claiming that Chol will instead be heading North to be closer to family with the decision coming down to either the Suns or the Saints. Chol's family lives in Shailer Park making the Suns frontrunners per the report.

Gold Coast are desperate for ruck stocks with Jarrod Witts recovering from an injured ACL and Zac Smith retiring.

Chol would be the perfect foil for Witts as well as provide a helping hand to star forward Ben King.

The Saints are looking to Chol as a replacement for Paddy Ryder who just penned a new one-year deal. Ryder will likely be rested at times throughout 2022, which may be his final season.

The Suns can offer Chol regular senior footy now though. And that maybe the sticking point for Chol.

He wants to play regular football now and it's hard to see him going to Moorabbin to wait at least another year.

Chol did play 10 of the last 11 games of the 2021 season but it remains doubtful he plays ahead of Soldo when he returns.
