The financial effects of the suspension of the AFL season due to the COVID-19 crisis continues.
Players will be forced to take a 50 per cent pay cut over the coming months, according to The Herald Sun.
Anย AFL Mediaย report stated that the the league was originally pushing for a whopping 79 per cent pay cut before the Playersโ Association and AFL came to an agreement.
The reduction of player salaries will take effect during the stand down period during April and May. Itย will be reassessed thereafter.
It comes after a devastating Monday at the AFL and club lands where they were forced to shed around 80 per cent of staff.
There were reports that all of Collingwood's football department was stood down as well as the Brisbane playing group, the latter of which was denied by the club.
League chief Gillon McLachlan announced on Sunday that the competition would be stood down until at least May 31. However, the likelihood of play resuming in early June is cloudy.
