The AFL has decided it will appeal against the tribunal's findings at last night's Bachar Houli hearing.

Houli was found guilty of striking Carlton's Jed Lamb and suspended for two games after being sent straight to the tribunal by the Match Review Panel.

The League believes the sanction is inadequate and will therefore appeal against the decision and argue for a longer ban.

The hearing has been set for Thursday evening.

"AFL has determined it will appeal Bachar Houli Tribunal case, on grounds sanction was manifestly inadequate. Appeal heard Thursday evening," the League said in a statement.

"AFL notified Appeal Board and Richmond FC just before midday that it would appeal last night's tribunal decision."

Thursday night's appeal will be heard by three of the six members of the Appeals Board, which consists of Peter O'Callaghan (chairman), Brian Collis QC (deputy chairman), Brian Bourke, Michael Green, Stephen Jurica and John Schultz.
