Hawthorn veteran Sam Mitchell has escaped sanction following his drug taunt to Essendon players on Saturday afternoon.

AFL football boss Mark Evans said the league examined the footage of Mitchell’s taunt and decided no further action would be taken.

Evans admitted the needle jibe was not a good look, but said that the AFL took into account Mitchell’s remorse after the game and the fact that he apologised to Bombers defender Michael Hibberd post match.
