The AFL has confirmed that the AFL Academy Induction camp is set to be held in Melbourne this weekend, with 30 promising young guns selected to take part.

The Academy consists of some of the country's most talented 17-year-old's, who will be eligible in the 2023 National Draft, with the program designed to ready them for AFL football through high performance and personal development programs.

This weekend's program will begin with a session at the Hangar, with additional training sessions set to take place at Waverley Park and Ikon Park across the weekend.

National Academy Manager Tarkyn Lockyer stated that the Academy is a great opportunity for the young players to develop on and off the field.

"We are very excited about the high level of talent within this group of future AFL stars and look forward to having the squad come together as a collective for the first time," Lockyer said.

โ€œBeing part of the 2023 AFL Academy will provide players access to elite coaching and facilities and give them first-hand experience of the professionalism and standards required to make it at the highest level.

โ€œAs well as being an opportunity to engage in high performance and personal development sessions, the camp also gives players the opportunity to challenge themselves against talented peers from across the country.โ€
