Adelaide veteran Scott Thompson will not be available for the Crows' round one clash as he continues his recovery from a shoulder injury.

Thompson, who has been battling a shoulder complaint during pre-season, was initially expected to be ready for round one.

However, he has only just resumed contact work and given his age and and experience, will not be rushed back, defender Daniel Talia confirmed at AFL captains day on Thursday.

Thompson will instead return via the SANFL, and while the club is yet to put an exact time frame on his return, he is expected to be ready some time in the early rounds.

Adelaide play Greaer Western Sydney at Adelaide Oval in round one.
