North melbourne midfielder Jack Ziebell has been released from Epworth hospital after suffering a bruised lung during Saturday night's loss to Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.

Ziebell sustained the injury while attempting to spoil Port's Ollie Wines in a marking contest.

The North Melbourne Vice-Captain spent two nights in hopsital for observation before being released earlier this morning.

Football Director Geoff Walsh told NMFC.com.au that the club is optimistic that Ziebell can play this weekend.
"We’ll monitor him throughout the week before making a decision on whether he plays against Geelong, but with an eight day break between games, we are hopeful he may be able to be a part of Sunday’s game," Walsh said.
