South Australian Matt Eagles is now a Brisbane Lion after winning the second series of reality TV show ‘The Recruit’ and signing a contract with the club in the live finale.

Eagles defeated fellow finalists Daniel Cox and Jordan Treloar to sign on as a category B rookie with the Lions, selecting them over Collingwood and Greater Western Sydney.

In an officially sanctioned AFL draft event, all 18 clubs voted on a 3-2-1 basis for which of the final three they thought deserved to win The Recruit, which gave an opportunity to young footballers who missed out on the draft process initially to play at the elite level.

On Wednesday night at The Palms at Melbourne’s Crown Casino, three clubs nominated to draft Eagles with the 26-year-old choosing to sign a contract with Brisbane, where he currently lives.

  1. This competition is absolute shite! how embarassing for this concept when none of the winners ever get elevated or play a single AFL game? The VFL boys all laugh about this competition…go have a look at EFL division one under 19’s and you will see about 30 young kids who would be a better prospect than any of these blokes…fair dinkum the crap you gullible idiots watch!
