Former Bulldogs and Tigers coach Terry Wallace says that Gold Coast forward Tom Lynch will be a star of the AFL very shortly.

Lynch took six marks and kicked three goals in the Suns' NAB Challenge win over the Lions in windy conditions on the weekend, prompting Wallace to heap praise on the 23-year-old.

“It was a windy horrible shocking day and he was the only power forward that was able to do anything,” Wallace said on SEN radio.

“I think he is going to be a star player and could be one of the absolute key position players of the competition over the next 12 to 18 months.

“He’s a leader, big and strong, competes in all areas of the game but has one issues and only one issues, his kicking skills are not absolutely brilliant.

“Every other area of his game is outstanding.”

Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph agreed with Wallace's sentiments.

“He is going to be a mega star,” Ralph said.

“They’ll build the football club around him, and they’ll have to because they might lose Jaeger O’Meara and Dion Prestia.

“He’ll probably be the captain of that footy club next year and I think by the end of this season he can be one of the top five forwards in the game.”
