Richmond seeking Josh Caddy in return for Brett Deledio

If the Cats want to prise Brett Deledio away from Richmond, they will have to pay a high price.

The Tigers yesterday ruled out a play for Geelong speedster Steven Motlop, but have another Cats’ youngster in their sights.

Other Sports News

Damian Barrett has reported that the Tigers want midfielder and former Gold Coast Suns player, Josh Caddy, in return for Deledio.

Caddy has a strong connection with Richmond, with good friend Dion Prestia set to join the Tigers this trade period, while former Geelong football manager, Neil Balme has recently joined the club. He is also said to be close with former Cats assistant coach, Blake Caracella, who is now at Punt Road.

The 24-year-old was drafted by the Suns with pick No.24 in 2010. He played 24 games with Gold Coast before joining Geelong at the end of 2012, where he has played 71 games in four seasons.

He played 18 games in 2016, averaging 20.2 disposals, 3.4 marks and 3.9 tackles.

    • fair trade. geelong are in a win now mentality and deledio is a better player at the moment while richmond are in need of a rebuild.
I actually think a late round pick from geelong would also be fair

      win for both teams.

    • I think it is a fair trade overall. Deledio is clearly the better player, but Caddy has great potential and can be a good player for Richmond immediately. If Deledio were around 2-3 years younger you would add a 2nd rounder in from Geelong.

  1. If Geel also gave us a decent draft pick, I’d say do it.
We should only let Lids go if it’s a good deal.
Caddy 24. Lids 29. Plus a decent draft pick. I’d say we are in front.
But Geel won’t let Caddy go I reckon.
I doubt a deal will get done and we’ll keep Lids.

  2. If that deal gets done it is a dead set joke! Deledio is 29 and miss the whole year injured. Caddy is 24 had a decent year playing in the wrong position. When will Geelong learn that it’s the coach we have to get rid of.

  3. Is this a joke. Caddy is a pretty good player, when played in his right position. Delidio is old and injury prone. Geelong hierarchy need a rocket if they make this deal.

    • Caddy is an okay player, inconsistent. However, Geelong are in a premiership bracket. You would flourish with Lids – but you hold out on him, your bracket narrows. Tiges have some leverage.

    • Fair enough everyone has their own opinions, but we have been burnt with some recruiting of older players in the past, most recent Mitch Clarke. We knew of his injury concerns and personal health issues but still took a punt which turned out badly. I know u can’t compare Clarke with Delidio, two completely different players, but the age and injury issues still exist.

  4. Don’t need lids just need a few coaches at geelong who can get the best out of who we already have..and for PD to bring a couple of the guys standing next to him into the game, don’t look for Sels cause he gets his own, caddy and Duncan would be a good start.
Stars don’t win GFs star teams do.

    • Deledio has been in the outer but following Swan opening his mouth, Dusty will be under the microscope now. Local paparazzi will be on their arse overseas. Tiges have a lot of inner scrutiny to do.

It was pick 7, you amateurs.

    • well, i was always saying i wasn’t going to watch afl after lids, cotchin, martin, rance and reiwoldt retired. depending on how they play i might only be watching geelong games from now on

  6. A 24 year old at the beginning of his peak for a 29 year old at the end of his peak? Horrible deal. Don’t do it Geelong, Richmond know that they won’t be a chance for a premiership during what remains of deledio’s career, so they are eager to get rid of him.

  7. Get over yourself Richmond just because your club is a hole josh caddy for a guy that hasn’t played a lot of football in the last couple of years and is 29 your joking

  8. Richmond are as good at trade time as they are regular season, so much expectation and then they never get what they expected.

Caddy for Deledio isn’t going to happen.

  9. THIS TRADE HAS BULLSHIT ALL OVER IT. BRETT DELEDIO SHOULD HAVE BEEN ELECTED CAPTAIN AT RICHMOND 3 YEARS AGO AND STILL SHOULD BE GIVEN THE CAPTAINCY IF HE STAYS’.RICHMOND ARE PATHETIC AND VICKORY WAS TREATED PATHETICALLY BE MATCH COMMITTEE. HAWKES WILL BE PREMIERS WITH THEIR 2017 LIST ADJUSTMENTS WHILST TIGERS’ WILL SINK BELOW 13TH. WHY WASN’T THE FOCUS ON FOOTY GROUP GIVEN CONTROL. JUST BLOODY SICK OF THE BULLSHIT NEED TO FIND A BETTER TEAM TO FOLLOW BECAUSE RICHMOND HAS LOST ITS ZEST FOR BEING COMPETITIVE. BRING BACK WALLACE!
