Geelong utility Billie Smedts has signed a two-year contract extension with the Cats.

The former No. 15 draft pick has struggled for game time during his time at the club due to injury and inconsistent form, managing just 37 games in four season.

But the Cats believe the 23-year-old can reach his full potential and become an important part of the club's future.

The new contract will see Smedts remain at the Cats until at least the end of 2017.
