St Kilda player Luke Dunstan was detained by Police overnight for being intoxicated in a public place.

The club released the following statement a short time ago:

St Kilda player Luke Dunstan has advised the club he has received an infringement notice for being intoxicated in a public place in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Luke fell asleep in public, was detained in police lodgement for a few hours and subsequently given a fine on release.

The 21 year old notified the club immediately and cooperated fully with police.

The team is currently on leave for the weekend and receives ongoing education around the importance of drinking responsibly.

GM – Football Performance Jamie Cox said Dunstan is very apologetic and embarrassed.

“Luke notified the club immediately of the situation and is extremely remorseful,” Cox said.

“Luke’s a trusted young man of strong character and we’re disappointed he has not met club expectations on this occasion.

“This serves as a prescient reminder to our playing group of the importance of responsible consumption of alcohol,” Cox said.
