Port Adelaide defender Jack Hombsch will miss the next three weeks due to a left quad strain.

Hombsch has missed the past four weeks due to a hamstring strain and was in line to return to the side on Friday night against Richmond.

However, he was a late withdrawal from the team that defeated the Tigers by 22 points after injuring his quad at training last Thursday.

It was a pretty innocuous thing to happen," Port Adelaide high performance manager Darren Burgess said.

"It’s a strain to the quad on his kicking leg – he's a left footer – so we think it'll mean at least three weeks for him."

He is expected to return for the Power's Round 19 clash with Brisbane at the Gabba.
