North Melbourne has reportedly expressed interest in Fremantle forward, Chris Mayne.

Mayne, who will be a free agent at season's end, is widely tipped to leave the Dockers at the end of the year, with the Kangaroos said to be keen on the 27-year-old, according to FoxSports.

Fremantle will receive a compensation pick most likely in the second round for Mayne, should he walk.

He is not considered a main priority for the Roos, but is on their radar and does fit the bill of the type of player they have been recruiting over the past few seasons.

North Melbourne has recruited experienced campaigners Nick Dal Santo, Jarrad Waite and Shaun Higgins over the past few seasons to try to push hard for a premiership.

His best season came in 2012, when he booted 39 goals in 23 games, but he has struggled for form over the past few seasons, and has managed just 18 goals in 17 games this year.

Maybe has kicked 196 goals in 167 career games with Fremantle.
