Eddie McGuire has finally apologised on 3AW Radio this morning for his comments about journalist Caroline Wilson last week.

McGurie and his Triple M commentary team were slammed by the AFL over their comments about Wilson on Queen's Birthday prior to the Big Freeze at the G.

"I reckon we should start the campaign for a one-person slide next year. Caroline Wilson. And I'll put in 10 grand straight away, make it 20. And if she stays under, 50," he said on triple M radio.

McGuire said his comments were "in the spirit of the fun of the day" on his radio program on Triple M on Monday morning.

However, he later appeared on 3AW Radio with Neil Mitchell and issued an apology fro his remarks.

"From the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry those comments have resonated that way," he told Mitchell.

"We're all devastated about this.

"Not because we've been held up for ridicule - that's part of what it is - but it's against every fibre we have in our bodies."

McGuire also dismissed reports that the AFL had told him to apologise to resign from his position as president of the Collingwood Football Club.

"It's complete nonsense. I've responded to that 15 times."
