Fremantle defender Michael Johnson has been charged with assault following an incident in a Perth kebab shop on November 13.

Johnson is alleged to have assaulted a customer in the shop following a verbal altercation with the man.

The Dockers released a statement last week confirming the 32-year-old was under investigation, with Police today confirming Johnson has been charged.

Johnson is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on January 18.

He managed only four games in 2016 due to a hamstring injury.
