Reports emerged last month that Greater Western Sydney forward James Stewart had requested a trade from the Giants.

The 22-year-old is said to be weighing up offers from both Essendon and Carlton, according to FoxSports.

The Blues initially appeared the front runners for his signature, however, Essendon is now understood to be a chance of snaring the youngster, with Carlton now focused on ensuring they finalise the deal to sign Caleb Marchbank, before focusing on any other trades.

His final decision rests on where he is likely to have greater opportunity for regular senior football, having managed just 18 games for GWS in four seasons.

However, he enjoyed a stellar season in the NEAFL, kicking 48 goals in 19 games for the Giants’ reserves side, as they won the NEAFL Grand Final.

The 196cm key forward was selected with pick 27 in the 202 National Draft, after he was overlooked by Collngwood as a father-son recruit.

The Magpies could have recruited Stewart in under the father-son rule, with his father, Craig, playing 115 games for Collingwood between 1978 and 1983.

The Pies were also reportedly showing interest in Stewart, however, he is believed to now have narrowed down his decision to Carlton or Essendon.
