Young Fremantle defender Alex Pearce will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg during the Dockers' 38-point loss to Richmond on Saturday night.

The 20-year-old landed awkwardly on his right leg during a marking contest in the final term.

"We're really quite upset at the minute," coach Ross Lyon said.

"It doesn't look great. It's broken, it will obviously be the season.

"It's really, really upsetting.

"We'll wrap all our support around him. He'll have to work his way through it. It's not ideal, obviously, but we'll try and keep perspective and he'll bounce back at some point in the future but it's going to take some time."

Pearce has played 21 career games with Freo, including eight this season.
