Former St Kilda player Farren Ray believes there is a clear favourite to take over the captaincy in 2017.
Speaking on EON Sports Radio on Friday, Ray, who played 123 games for the Saints, said Jarryn Geary would be a fantastic choice as captain of the club, following Nick Riewoldt's decision to step down from the role.
“There would be no one more suitable for the job than Jarryn Geary,” Ray said.
“He’s highly respected down there at the club, does all the right things, speaks really well and he’s a really mature player. He’s very suited to the role.
“Jack Steven is also a superstar player – it would be a different captaincy model, he leads by example on the field.”
Gearry has played 141 games for the Saints since being selected with pick No.58 in the 2007 Rookie Draft.
