Melbourne youngster Clayton Oliver was recently caught drink driving while on annual leave from the club, the Demons have announced.

Melbourne is yet to decide on a sanction for the onballer, with the leadership group set to meet on Monday to discuss the incident.

The club released the following statement a short time ago:

“We are extremely disappointed in the decisions Clayton made, which led to this,” General Manager, Football Operations Josh Mahoney said.

“Not only did he put himself at risk, but he put his passenger and members of the general public at risk and this is completely unacceptable.

“We have discussed this with Clayton and he is extremely remorseful for his actions. Clayton understands how lucky he was and that nothing more serious occurred as a result of his poor decision-making on this occasion.

“We will wait for the senior leaders of the club to return to training on Monday before discussing our response, and Clayton has already been penalised by authorities.

“Clayton has taken the first step by accepting responsibility for his actions. We are confident that with the program we will put in place that he will not only learn from this incident, but also play a role in ensuring other young people do not make the same mistake.”
