Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro says the club has made little progress in negotiations with Melbourne for defender Michael Hibberd.

Hibberd, who missed the 2016 season after being banned for 12 months due to Essendon's 2012 supplements saga, nominated the Demons as his club of choice in August. However, the two clubs are still yet to finalise a deal for the 26-year-old, with just two days remaining in this year's trade period.

Dodoro told Essendon's website that both clubs have agreed for some time that he is worth a second round selection, however, they are at odds over whether that selection will be a 2016 or a 2017 draft pick.

“Quite clearly we think he’s a second round selection in this year’s draft,” Dodoro said.

“Melbourne is fairly adamant that they don’t want to give up this year’s second round selection and have offered their future second round selection.

“There are some discussions being had on that.

“Obviously we’ve got a position and they’ve got a position and we’ve got to get to a resolution.”

Meanwhile, Dodoro said the club will not be trading its No.1 draft pick in this year's upcoming draft, while also ruling out a last minute play for Jaeger O'Meara, as negotiations between Hawthorn and the Suns continue to drag on.
