Geelong's Steven Motlop is under an injury cloud heading into Friday night's blockbuster preliminary final against Sydney at the MCG.

The Cats were put through a grueling training session on Saturday afternoon, however, Motlop left the track early to receive treatment on his calf, while he also appeared to grab at his his knee throughout the session.

The 25-year-old had 16 disposals and kicked two goals in the Cats' two-point win over Hawthorn in the qualifying final.

Meanwhile, key defender Lachie Henderson trained strongly and is expected to return to face the Swans.
