AFL journalist Damian Barrett has reported that former Essendon player Jake Carlisle could launch legal against new club St Kilda due to unpaid wages.

"It's been made very clear to him (Jake Carlisle) in recent times that the Saints will not be paying once cent while he is serving his WADA ban and he's going to take legal action in some form to get paid from someone this year," Barrett said on The Footy Show on Thursday night.

"Both parties...this week were absolutely adamant that they are committed to a future together but the facts are Carlisle is yet to establish any meaningful relationship with anyone at that football club and he is now going to be embroiled in legal action that does involve the Saints in some way."

"So he's going to sue a club he hasn't played a game for yet," host James Brayshaw added.

"That could well be the outcome," Barrett confirmed.

Barrett said that former Bombers Jake Melksham (now at Melbourne), Angus Monfires and Paddy Ryder (both at Port Adelaide) are also yet to be paid by their current clubs since the 12-month ban was handed down by the Court of Arbitration of Sport.
