Hawthorn utility Matt Spangher will miss the next 8-10 weeks after injuring his hamstring on the weekend.

The 2014 premiership player, who was returning for his first game back in the senior side after overcoming a calf injury, suffered a hamstring tendon injury in the opening minutes of the Hawks' win over Brisbane.

“It’s very disappointing for him,” Hawthorn general manager of football operations Chris Fagan said.

“He played four senior games last year, and in his comeback game he’s done some significant damage to that hamstring, the hamstring tendon. (It’s a) fairly high-grade injury.”

“At this point in time it looks like it’s going to be an eight-to-ten-week rehabilitation, which is really disappointing for Matt and obviously for his teammates.”
