Brett Deledio nominates GWS as preferred destination

Richmond star Brett Deledio has officially informed the Tigers he wants to be traded, nominating Greater Western Sydney as his preferred destination.

"The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS can confirm that Brett Deledio has agreed to join the club," the Giants confirmed in a statement on the club's website.

"The Giants will now work with the Richmond Football Club to finalise a trade."

Deledio had initially signaled his intention to join Geelong, however, with the Cats unable to afford the former No.1 draft pick due to salary cap pressure, he is believed to have instead opted to join the Giants, who entered the race late to sign the Richmond star.

GWS are better placed than the Cats to orchestrate a trade, with the Giants holding several early draft picks.

However, they may still have trouble fitting Deledio into the salary cap, with the Giants' cap understood to also be near full.

The 29-year-old has played 243 games with with the Tigers, since making his debut in 2005.

He is a two-time All-Australian, a two-time Richmond best and fairest winner and was the winner of the 2005 AFL rising star award.
