AFL confirms start times for preliminary finals

The AFL has confirmed that the preliminary final to be hosted by GWS next Saturday will start at 5.15pm.

The game has been scheduled as a twilight fixture to maximise TV audiences outside of New South Wales and to allow enough time for the away team, being either Hawthorn or the Western Bulldogs, to travel home to Victoria that evening should they win.

Geelong v Winner of First Semi-Final (second preliminary final)

Friday September 23, MCG — 7.50pm (AEST)

GWS Giants v Winner of Second Semi-Final (first preliminary final)

Saturday September 24, Spotless Stadium — 5.15pm (AEST)

  1. So if it was the Bulldogs were playing gws as a bulldog home final would the game be played at etihad? They should not get to play at spotless nor should feeling ever play a final at Simmons stadium

  2. Yet the VFL refuse to play the swans crows game as anything other than a night game. If the crows win they can’t get home on the same night and front six days later to play Geelong. Very nice of the VFL to have a twilight prelim so should the Victorian club win they can get home on the same night.
    NATIONAL COMP?, yeah right.
